2017 SCCA Marketing Awards night

This event just gets better and better!

The magnificent venue was graced by a glamorous crowd; a formal affair, its stylish attendees would have fitted in easily at any ‘A-list’ event. But that’s selling them short; this was an A-list event, with the cream of Australia’s shopping centre marketing teams on hand, together with most of the CEOs and senior executives from the major companies.

A total sell-out event meant that not a single spare seat could be seen in the packed venue. A balmy Sydney evening saw the champagne flowing on the open terrace prior to the formal dinner, with parts of Sydney Harbour providing the backdrop. The mood was bubbly disguising the nervousness which is always present prior to award ceremonies.

Sylvia JeffriesOnce inside and the business of nominees, runners up and winners, began immediately. Sylvia Jeffries (left), Channel 9 news presenter performed the MC honours in a stylish yet thoroughly professional manner. A great touch this year was that the CEOs of the major players – Scentre Group, Lendlease, Stockland, AMP, JLL, Vicinity, Mirvac, Charter Hall, Dexus, GPT, Perron – each presented an award, testimony if you like of the importance and significance of the event.

Standard of the entries was, as always, leading edge; it’s generally considered that shopping centre marketing in Australia is the best in the world, and comments from the judges suggested that the margins between winners and finalists were very tight.

Campaign of the Year and winner of the Sabina Rust Memorial Prize went to GPT’s Highpoint Shopping Centre for its ‘Think West’ campaign. Highpoint’s marketing team worked with some 24 community partners to come together to facilitate the sharing of ideas, philosophy and culture with over 3,000 participants celebrating cultural diversity of Melbourne’s West. Scentre Group CEO and current Chairman of SCCA, Peter Allen, presented the award.
