Biennale exhibition at Mirvac’s East Village

The Biennale of Sydney and Mirvac’s East Village in Zetland have partnered with Studio ARTES to present One Day We Will, a free exhibition of art from Tuesday 26 to Sunday 31 October. Showcasing works from more than 20 Studio ARTES artists, the pop-up gallery is a celebration of inclusivity, acceptance, respect and the safe return to community spaces.

The first event for Mirvac and the Biennale of Sydney since the property group announced its five-year partnership with the contemporary art event, One Day We Will will provide exposure for Studio ARTES and its community of artists, who are undertaking a 9-week professional development program with the Biennale of Sydney.

Mirvac Senior Asset Manager for East Village, Alex Perryman said, “We couldn’t be prouder to be showcasing this exhibition at East Village this week, connecting these artists and their stories with our incredible local community.”

“As we excitingly welcome growing numbers of shoppers back to our precincts, activations like these demonstrate what is possible when we reimagine our physical spaces, to co-create free and accessible arts and culture that truly engage people, spark dialogue, cultivate connections and inspire action through meaningful experiences. We hope everyone comes down to appreciate the artworks and support Studio ARTES and their incredible artists.”

Studio ARTES is an NDIS registered provider that was developed as an alternative to existing service provision in response to a recognised need in the community to provide services to and empower people living with mild to moderate intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders, mild to moderate physical disabilities and down syndrome. One Day We Will kicks off the 9-week professional development program the Biennale of Sydney is facilitating with Studio ARTES and Front Up, another organisation dedicated to disability-led arts and cultural programs.

Lleah Smith, Curator, Programs and Learning at the Biennale of Sydney said, “The 23rd Biennale of Sydney (2022), titled rīvus, is grounded in collectivity and connection with diverse communities. One Day We Will actively demonstrates the shared commitment between the Biennale of Sydney and Mirvac to providing opportunities for people with diverse experiences to share their story through artistic practice, demonstrating a true alignment with the ambitions of rīvus.

Catherine Thickett, Visual Arts Coordinator at Studio ARTES added: “Studio ARTES is extremely excited to be partnering with the Biennale of Sydney and Mirvac in order to celebrate the art and talent of our members with the wider community. The last couple of years have been extremely challenging for all of us, and although the creative output of our members hasn’t diminished, the ability to exhibit publicly and in the way we would hope to certainly has. We are thrilled to be able to exhibit works in such a dynamic, busy and accessible environment, and thrilled also that this opportunity has given us all, our artists and our audience, something amazing to look forward to after such a tricky period.”

The One Day We Will pop up gallery is free and in-centre at East Village from Tuesday 26 to Sunday 31 October. All artworks are available to purchase with 100% of profits going back to Studio ARTES and their artists.
