Yamanto Central hits another major milestone in its construction journey

Yamanto Central has reached another major milestone in its construction journey

While COVID-19 is impacting retail and retail projects across Australia, Queensland is kicking goals. Construction of Yamanto Central, a new shopping centre located west of Brisbane in the outskirts of Ipswich, is ahead of schedule and likely to open in the early part of 2021. The development has reached another major milestone in its journey as Mainbrace Constructions has started putting the roof on the centre. The roof sheeting has commenced with the Coles tenancy now complete and the rest of the Market Hall to follow in the coming weeks.

Shopping centre owner and developer, JMK Retail, general manager, Vicki Leavy, said, “This is a major milestone for the project. This means the project timeline is less vulnerable to delays due to external elements. As roofing is progressively installed, much of the activity will be internalised however we will still continue to see the external design elements of the centre taking shape over the coming months.

The centre is expected to create up to 200 new jobs in 2021 and provide much-needed retail, lifestyle and dining amenities for the local community

“With so much excitement building across the community, the installation of the roof means we’re one step closer to swinging the doors open. This means jobs for locals are becoming real and new retail outlets for shoppers are moving closer to opening.

“Given the size of the centre, the roof is a huge milestone within the construction process and the installation is a mammoth task.”

Yamanto Central is the first stage of the exciting 25 hectare Yamanto Town Centre masterplan

Senior Project Manager for Mainbrace Constructions, Dave Hayter said, “The installation of the Kingspan PIR roof panels for Coles was a major milestone for the project.

“Significant pre-planning with our roofing contractor enabled the entire 4,000m2 roof to be completed over a one week period, even though we lost a half-day in productivity due to high winds.

“This is the first major area of roofing to be completed on the project and now the internal fit-out for Coles can commence ahead of program.

“The remaining precast panels and structural steel for Kmart are due on-site next week when the true scale and size of the centre should start to become more apparent.”

Yamanto Central is the first stage of the exciting 25 hectare Yamanto Town Centre masterplan, which will bring together a modern, convenient and community-oriented mix of retail, health and wellness and casual dining to the area. Located within Brisbane’s western growth corridor, Yamanto Central is approximately 35 kilometres from Brisbane’s CBD and five kilometres south of the Ipswich CBD.

The centre is expected to create up to 200 new jobs in 2021 and provide much-needed retail, lifestyle and dining amenities for the local community.
