Stage one of the Shell Cove town centre, part of the award-winning community by Shellharbour City Council and Frasers Property Australia is now open with an ice-creamery, kiosk, pizza and pasta restaurant, cafe, artisan bakery, dentist and barber are among the retailers in the new town centre.

In a traditional ceremony this morning (25 October) the first stage of retail opened to excited locals.

Servicing a catchment of more than 100,000 people, the new Shell Cove Town Centre will be anchored by a full-line 3,800m2 Woolworths supermarket and BWS liquor outlet.

“Joining Woolworths is a great mix of local businesses keen to make their mark in the new community, creating a vibrant town centre atmosphere with a distinct local flavour,” says Tim Moore, General Manager – Retail Leasing, Frasers Property Australia.

The Waterfront, Shell Cove has been designed so residents can walk to shops, the harbour, schools, beaches, public transport and other amenities. The new community is in a natural coastal setting surrounded by beaches, parks and wetlands but close to schools, transport and major centres.

This first stage of the town centre features solar panels that will generate power equivalent to that required to operate 55 homes, as well as a rainwater recycling system for use in gardens and toilets which, coupled with efficient taps and fittings, is estimated to save more than 900,000L of water annually.

Bliss Ice-cream and Gelato offers a cooling treat to residents and visitors. Proprietors Mark O’Keefe and Mary Novak were attracted to the waterfront location offered at Shell Cove and will relocate their existing business from nearby Shellharbour where they have operated Shellharbour Ice-Creamery at Shellharbour Village for five years. Mary says the new shop is “a hop, skip and a jump to the marina.”

“We will have some seating out the front so people can sit and enjoy their ice-cream and watch the activity on the foreshore and the boat harbour. There is going to be a children’s adventure playground nearby as well, which will be a bonus for us,” she says.

Mary says two new freezers are on order to store the 48 flavours of ice-cream and gelato they will stock. There will also be a coffee bar.

Anthony Autore is so excited about the new Shell Cove Town Centre that he leased two retail spaces to meet all the dining needs of locals and visitors alike – Amalfi Pizza Shell Cove will give diners an authentic Italian experience while Seawolf Café will be open seven days for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and will include an exciting weekend tapas menu. Anthony is thrilled with the well thought out design of the retail area and says the large car park underneath will offer plenty of stress-free parking for visitors.

He says Frasers Property has designed one of the best neighbourhood shopping centres he has ever seen, and the great variety of retailers means residents will never have to leave Shell Cove.
