Pacific Fair named Queensland’s Retail Property of the Year 2021

Pacific Fair Centre Management was acknowledged for their tremendous efforts managing a complex and large asset

The AMP Capital-managed Pacific Fair Shopping Centre has taken out the top honour as Queensland’s Retail Property of the Year 2021 at the annual Property Council of Australia’s Queensland Retail Awards.

The Property Council of Australia’s Queensland Retail Property of the Year Awards acknowledges the best in retail properties and precincts across the state. The award categories reward excellence in relation to design, marketing, centre management and innovation.

Pacific Fair was unanimously chosen by the judges who were impressed by the centre’s presentation, marketing efforts and its response to the ongoing pandemic challenges.

Property Council Queensland Executive Director, Jen Williams, said this event was a timely reminder of the critical role that the retail sector plays across Queensland, as the centre of local communities and a significant contributor to the wider Queensland economy.

“More often than not retail assets become part of the fabric that weaves together a community, with shopping hubs being the epicentre of connection, as well as uplifting the amenity of local areas,” Williams said.

“These awards highlight not only the efforts undertaken by our talented retail professionals to improve convenience for customers and retailers, but they also acknowledge the sector’s innovation and ability to meet ever changing market conditions,” she said.

Gold Coast’s Pacific Fair is an iconic shopping destination with a unique outdoor / indoor retail experience

Pacific Fair is centrally located in the heart of the Gold Coast on a 16.6 hectare site, adjacent to The Star Casino and the Broadbeach retail, conference and accommodation precinct. Pacific Fair has a strong history on the Gold Coast; it was first opened in August 1977 and was extended in 1982, 1990, 1992, 1996, 1998 and 2002. A major redevelopment was completed in 2016. With its unique indoor/ outdoor ambience, Pacific Fair has become an iconic landmark for residents and visitors to the Gold Coast.

The centre also won a string of awards in addition to the Queensland Retail Property of the Year 2021 award, including:

Excellence in Centre Management (properties over 35,000m2)
Judges were impressed by the ‘one’ centre approach equally spreading their capital budget to create a seamless integration between older and newer parts of the shopping precinct.

Retail Innovation Award
Pacific Fair successfully implemented a range of ESG initiatives throughout 2020 and achieved a 5-Star NABERS rating for energy. This is the first super-regional centre within Australia to receive this coveted rating.

Excellence in Marketing (properties over 35,000m2)
The award recognised their research led and community focused approach. The centre’s marketing program was cost effective, well positioned with partnerships, delivering strong results for this super regional centre.
