GPT appoints new Head of Retail

The GPT Group has announced the appointment of Chris Barnett as the Head of Retail, following a comprehensive selection process. Chris has more than 22 years of real estate and asset management experience, with the majority of this gained within the retail property sector. Chris will commence his role on 15 April 2019.

Chris has held various senior roles in Westfield and Scentre Group in Australia, New Zealand and the United States. Most recently Chris has held the position of General Manager, Development and Strategic Asset Management (NSW/SA) at Scentre Group, where he was responsible for investment performance and the delivery of a number of development projects across Scentre’s NSW and South Australian portfolio.

GPT’s Chief Executive Officer Bob Johnston said: “I am very pleased to announce Chris’appointment to the Head of Retail role. I look forward to welcoming Chris to the GPT business, and I am confident that his skills and experience will make a significant contribution to the Group.”

In September last year, GPT announced the resignation of its Head of Retail, Vanessa Orth, who was leaving to take up the role of Chief Commercial Officer – Non-Aeronautical at Sydney Airport Corporation (SYD).

“Vanessa has done a great job in driving key initiatives within the retail division that will play an important role in the future success of our retail assets. Vanessa leaves the retail portfolio in good shape, and we extend to her our best wishes for her future success,” Johnston said.
