Pacific Fair launches adult change facilities

Pacific Fair opened their newly-installed adult change facilities designed and built with the guidance of Changing Places – an organisation which advocates for full-sized change facilities in public toilets for use by adults with disabilities and their carers.

The facilities, which cost $250,000, are the first of their kind on the Gold Coast and the first for a Queensland shopping centre.

Senior Centre Manger, Pacific Fair, Steven Ihm said Pacific Fair is thrilled to be opening facilities which make the lives of people in their community with complex medical and disability issues that little bit easier.

“During the process Pacific Fair worked closely with the community to ensure the facilities met the needs of adults with disabilities,” said Ihm.

The artwork on the walls of the facility was painted by Lilly Murphy, a young girl with disabilities who paints with her mouth.

Sheri Murphy, mother to 7-year-old Lilly, who was born with Arthrogryposis multiplex congenital said, “These facilities will not only benefit us, but all families out there struggling with similar issues. No more changing Lilly in the back of the car or having to lift her,” she said.

The facilities are now open for use by all customers of Pacific Fair who require them and are located near the amenities on the ground floor of The Arcade.
