Harris Farm Markets announces its first Gold Coast store

Family-owned and operated Harris Farm Markets has announced its first store for the Gold Coast will be located at Capri on Via Roma, with ten local staff already recruited from the departing tenant, The Greener Grocer.
The famed local produce and grocery market opened its first store in Queensland in Brisbane’s Clayfield in November last year and will open its flagship store in West Village at West End mid this year. When the Isle of Capri store opens later this year, more than 300 locals will be employed across the three Queensland stores, and the stores will showcase fruit and veg from more than 320 Queensland growers.
At the Isle of Capri meeting with the ten local new recruits, Harris Farm Markets co-CEO Luke Harris, one of the three Harris sons who now run the company after their parents, David and Cathy Harris, retired, said he was excited to be finally opening on the Gold Coast.

“The Gold Coast holds a special place in our hearts, given we have spent so much time there as a family on holidays and to now be able to open on the Isle of Capri, in the heart of a city that values their fresh fruit, vegetables and food stores so highly, is really exciting. We look forward to getting to know the local community, to employing locally, to working with other retailers at Capri on Via Roma and to sharing the flavours of local farmers and makers. Importantly, we are thrilled to be able to already employ ten staff from the departing tenant, The Greener Grocer, and we look forward to meeting and employing more locals.”

Harris Farm Markets is home to more than 3,000 employees across 23 stores. The new store will employ some 70 local staff, across casual, part-time and permanent positions.

“The store at Capri on Via Roma will be home to the best in fruit and vegetables, featuring an incredible line-up of Queensland fruit and veg, as well as a gourmet grocery section of boutique local products, an extensive deli and offering of more than 200 cheeses, a bakery section with the best breads from sourdough to brioche, and a premium meat selection. We have some great surprises that we will reveal closer to opening!

“It will be a flavour-filled showcase of Queensland and Australian fruit and veg under one roof,” said Harris. “Queensland is famed for the richness and range of fruit and veg grown across the state, and to be able to work with so many wonderful producers is one of our dreams.”

Harris Farm will be holding an Ask Me Anything information day on-site in the coming weeks.
In November 2020, Harris Farm Markets opened its first store in Queensland, after 30 years away from the state, and the store just happened to be the original one! Harris Farm opened at the site of the former Clayfield Markets on Sandgate Road. It had been home to an outstanding fruit and vegetable offering for 25 years, and run by much-loved local produce experts, Carlo and Susan Lorenti. Harris Farm used to own the site 30 years ago before selling it to the Lorentis and in a full circle story, Harris Farm bought it back and Carlo and Susan have stayed on as managers, along with many staff.
